We are happy to announce that on November 18, 2010 The Dead River Company acquired the assets of Country Oil in Bernardston, MA and Country Fuel in Gardner MA. Dead River is one of the largest retail marketers of home heating oil and propane in New England and this marks their first entrance into the Massachusetts market.

The acquisition was completed through the Cetane Associates M&A division. There was a tremendous amount of interest when we circulated our detailed Confidential Business Review. It appears that when it comes to acquiring quality fuel businesses, the market is very healthy for sellers who represent their businesses properly. Dead River will continue to operate the business from both locations and they plan to expand in the area through additional acquisition opportunities as well as through diversification into other product lines such as propane.

The state of the art facility in Bernardston is situated on over 40 acres and will accommodate the future growth. The company currently services Central Massachusetts and parts of Vermont and New Hampshire.

John Cormier, the owner of Country Oil made a decision to retire after spending most of his work life in the industry. Mr. Cormier brought in Cetane Associates to find the best company to take over the business. John wanted to present his company in more detail than just the numbers. Country Oil was his life’s work and it was important to know that his efforts would pay off for his family. John was also concerned that his employees would have a great future working for a quality owner. We wish John and his family well in his retirement.
